1) Make an Outside Call
Press the Green Phone key and dial 9. You will hear dial tone on the first available line. The first available line depends on the phone system programming. Dial the number.

Move the JOYSTICK to the right and then select the line you want to use by moving the cursor up or down. Dial the number
2) Make an intercom call
Press the GREEN PHONE, dial the intercom number.

Press the INT button (the speakerphone comes on, dial the three digit extension number. Press the Green Phone button to turn the speakerphone off so you can speak privately.

Pressing the Green Phone key more than once turns the speakerphone on or off
4) Hold
Pressing the HOLD button places your call on HOLD. It can be picked up at any system phone. To pick it up on the 7896 phone, press the JOYSTICK to the right. You will see a flashing dot to the right of the line on hold. Select the line and press the JOYSTICK, you will be reconnected.
5) Transfer a call. While on a call you can transfer it to another extension.
Press the XFER button (above the number 3). Your caller is placed on hold. Dial the station number where you want the call transferred. You can either hang up or wait for the person to answer. When they answer you can announce the call and hang up, they are connected.
Or
Place the call on HOLD. Call another extension and announce the call. They can press the flashing call on hold to talk with the outside party.
6) Outgoing Call Log (Shows the last few numbers dialed)
When the screen is in the standby mode there are 3 icons near the bottom. The icon above the left soft key is the Phonebook. The icon above the right soft key is the Outgoing Call Log. Press the right soft key and the display will show Outgoing Log 1. Move the JOYSTICK down and it will show call 2 etc..
When you get to a number you want to call, move the JOYSTICK to the right and the screen will show the feature keys. Select a line. Press the JOYSTICK and the speakerphone will come on and the phone will dial the number. Sounds complicated but its quite easy, try it a couple of times.
7) Handset Phonebook
When the screen is in the standby mode there are 3 icons near the bottom. The icon above the left soft key is the Phonebook. The icon above the right soft key is the Outgoing Call Log. Press the left soft key and the display will show names stored in memory (in alphabetical order). Select the name you want to call. Move the JOYSTICK to the right, Select a line and press the JOYSTICK.
8) Answer a Call
When the phone is ringing press the GREEN PHONE button
Programming the F-Keys
FLEXIBLE KEYS (F-Key)
When you press the JOYSTICK to the LEFT the screen shows Function keys 1 through 5. By pressing the JOYSTICK down you can scroll through Function keys 6 through 12. If you name each function the phone is much easier to use. You may want to name Function 1 as Line 1, the second Function as Line 2 and the third as PAGING or SHIPPING 110 or KITCHEN 101.
To name the twelve F-Keys
Example; Entering LINE 1
When the display reads (Enter Name), press the 5 three times (the L shows on the screen) Press the 4 three times (LI shows on the screen) Press the 6 three times (LIN shows on the screen) Press the 3 two times (LINE shows on the screen) Press the 0 0ne time for a space Press the 1 until the 1 shows on the screen
It should now say LINE 1, press the JOYSTICK to save
NOTE: Alphanumeric characters, numbers and letters are as shown on the key pad such as 5 for JKL5jkl, each time you press the number the character changes.
The 0 is for space and 0 The 1 is for # & ‘ ( ) * - . 1 /
If you need to enter keys with the same numbers such as m and n, enter one letter and move the JOYSTICK to the left to enter the other. Press STAR to change case between upper and lower
Program Station Name and Number
When you use the 7896 on a Panasonic PBX/Phone System, the phone will have a name and station number. You should program this name and number in the phone (especially if you have more than one cordless phone). It will show on the display so you can tell at a glance which phone you have picked up. If it does not show, press the PWR button to change the display.
To program the station name (Such as Joe 105)
Example, entering JOE 105
When the display reads (Enter Name), press the 5 one times (the J shows on the screen)
Press the 6 three times (JO shows on the screen)
Press the 3 two times (JOE shows on the screen)
Press the 0 one time for a blank space
Press the 1 until the 1 shows on the screen (Shows JOE 1)
Press the 0 two times for a 0 (Shows JOE 10)
Press the 5 four times (Shows JOE 105)
It should now say JOE 105, press the JOYSTICK to save
When you press the PWR button after this programming the display will show the extension name and the date and time.

Program Phonebook Name and Number
Phonebook will store up to 200 names and numbers. To program the station name and number (such as Sally Jo, 1555-456-1234)

Enabling the Outgoing Call Log
The phone will store 6 outgoing calls. To use, press the RIGHT SOFTKEY, the display will show Outgoing Log 1. To see additional calls press the JOYSTICK up or down. To call the number selected move the JOYSTICK to the right and the F-Keys will show. Select a line, press the JOYSTICK and the number will be called.

| Phonebook Lock/Password protect | You can lock/unlock the handset phonebook. When locked, it will request a password before you can use it (default 1234). To lock, press the left soft key for more than 2 seconds (you will hear a beep). To unlock, press the left soft key for more than 2 seconds, hear the beep, enter the password. |
